    Kitchen sink base smells?
We do not have a garbage disposer and therefore we do not put waste food in the kitchen sink. We remove it and put it in the trash bag.

We do not have a sewer system. Waste water from the kitchen and the shower is collected in a pit outside the house and is allowed to percolate into the ground. The pit is cleaned regularly. Dont ask my why, thats how the landlord designed it.

Coming to my problem… the base where the pipe from the sink ends stinks real bad. I looked it up on the net and there were suggestions like lemon, ice, baking soda and vinegar but I suppose all that is for a kitchen sink with a garbage disposer. Any suggestions for my problem?

The solution to your problem is quite simple, and you have it part right. To cure smelly drains, simply put two or three tablespoons of baking soda in the drain, using a few ounces of water to get it down into the drain and the p-trap, and follow it with a cup of white vinegar. This will foam up a bit, like carbonated soda pop, but will not harm the sink or plumbing. Let it stand in the drain until you need to use the sink again.

Put 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup baking soda in the drain hole. Pour 1/2 cup vinegar on it, and let it bubble and gurgle until it goes down. Then rinse with hot water for a minute or two. Voila!

    Same as above. ^

That’s what my mother used when I was growing up, playfully dubbed a "hippy sink bomb" by my friends. \(>.<)/

It will foam and smell a little vinegary until you rinse all of the vinegar down the pipes with dirty dish water.
