Ahi Tuna Steak recipe? NOT using Soy Sauce?
I have to Ahi steaks to cook tonight and want to do some sort of seared dish, but every recipe I’ve found has soy sauce in it, and I do not like the flavor at all!
Any recipes out there that do not use soy sauce??

You could take any of the standard recipes and substitute wine for the soy sauce.

we like to marinate about 15 min in lime or lemon juice and crushed garlic, maybe a splash of white wine. Then grill.

Italian ( Mediterranian style). Marinate tuna in a blend of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano or marjarum, salt & pepper about 10 mins. before grilling or broiling. Serve with sliced black olives and parsely as a garnish.

I love seafood in lime cilantro marinades…here’s a recipe I found for Ahi with the same type marinade…yum!
Grilled Lime Cilantro Ahi with Honey Glaze
INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup lime juice
1/8 cup balsamic vinegar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1 pound yellowfin tuna fillets
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, mix together 1/4 cup olive oil, lime juice, balsamic vinegar, garlic, ginger, and 1/4 cup cilantro. Add tuna fillets, and turn to coat evenly. Let marinate for several hours in the refrigerator.
Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat and lightly oil grate. In a small bowl, mix together honey, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and 2 tablespoons cilantro; set aside.
When grill is hot, reduce heat to low, and place tuna fillets on grate. Close lid, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Flip fillets over carefully, and close lid again for another minute to sear fish. Open lid, and continue cooking until barely done, basting frequently with marinade. When fish is almost cooked through, brush the honey glaze over both sides of fish, and remove from grill.

Lemon Pepper Ahi Tuna
2 ahi tuna steaks
kosher salt
crushed black peppercorns
1/2 lemon
1 teaspoon capers
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon safflower oil or olive oil (whatever kind of oil you have available)
Sprinkle salt and black pepper on both sides of the tuna steaks.
Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the steaks.
Heat 1 tbs of oil in a pan.
Add 1 tbs of butter.
Turn the heat down low to medium-low.
Place the tuna in the pan.
Add capers, and squeeze more lemon juice into the pan.
Add slices of lemon to the pan and 2nd tbs of butter.
Shake the contents of the pan a bit and let cook for about 4 minutes.
Turn the steaks over and cook for another 5 minutes.
Serve the tuna with the slices of lemon and capers from the pan.
Easiest Ahi Tuna Ever
8 ounces ahi tuna steaks, sushi grade
2-3 tablespoons peppercorns, cracked
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt
Rub the stead with one tbs of the olive oil.
Put the peppercorns on a plate and press the tuna steak into the peppercorns until it is coated.
Sprinkle the steak with salt to taste.
Heat the other tbs of olive oil in a non-stick pan on medium high heat.
Cook the steak 2-3 minutes per side.
Slice the steak into 1/4" slices and serve over salad or rice.
Note: If you do not care for raw or rare fish this recipe is not for you. Cooking a tuna steak for 2-3 minutes per side will leave the middle quite rare, and barely warm. You could cook the fish longer until it is well done, but then you would basically spending a lot of money of a cut of fish that is meant to be served rare or raw.
