Why People Can’t Stick to Weight Loss Resolutions and How to Combat That

Almost everyone has a New Year’s resolution whenever a new year approaches. This is usually something that they have probably tried before and have been unsuccessful. One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight. The reason this is important is because there has been a lot of public awareness regarding the dangers of being overweight.

The medical term for being overweight is obesity which refers to a condition where the body accumulates enough fat for it to be a health risk. These risks are not exaggerated; over 400,000 people die each year due to obesity-related problems not to mention the billions of dollars spent each year in lost business production when employees have to miss work because of obesity-related doctors’ visits.

People gain weight in different ways and there is an overwhelming consensus that the main reasons why people become overweight is because of indulging in high calorie diets, lack of exercise or genetic issues that are compounded by the previous two points. In today’s society, people are under tremendous pressure and they have no time to eat right or to exercise.

This means the other alternative to eating is to go to fast food restaurants whose food is usually high in cholesterol. It is no longer unusual to see entire families eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at fast food restaurants because they simply have no time to go grocery shopping or cook a wholesome meal. The same people also do not allocate enough time for exercise and this is also because of the same reason-pressure from a society that demands everything from its people.

One of the ways people do not stick with their weight loss resolutions is because of time. As we have mentioned earlier, today’s society demands a lot from its people. People are working two or three jobs just to make ends meet, go to school and in many cases also have families to take care of.

These people come home too tired to exercise or even think of preparing a healthy balanced meal. For many, restaurants that serve take-away are their only option to eat. Fast food is known to not only be addictive, but also has a very high level of cholesterol.

Another reason why people also fail to keep their weight loss resolutions is because they do not have a disciplined lifestyle. Discipline is required in order to attain whatever resolution one has. When it comes to exercise for instance, one cannot approach it half-heartedly.

There has to be a routine and there has to be diligence. Sometimes this involves getting an accountability partner. A good partner would be someone who wants you to succeed and keeps you on your toes so that you do not relapse into the old habits which were counter-productive. You can also join a weight loss club. There are many of these in each city and you can simply go online and you will find one.

Woman Says She Gets Free Groceries

One woman said she gets free groceries all the time. With a little hard work, she said others can get them free, too.

KMBC’s Jim Flink reported that most of us think we can only save pennies clipping coupons, but one woman said she saved $6,000 last year alone. She is so good at it, it is now her business.

“The concept is not to spend money if you don’t have to,” said Tami Bryan of Shop 4 Free Mom. “You really have to sit down and plan. I spend about four hours a week.”

For 15 years, this has been her at-home job, Flink reported. Now, she teaches other what she has learned.

“Every single item you buy for your home, generally has a coupon for it,” Bryan said.

Bryan keeps her coupons in a handy organizer.

“Up front I have medicines … candy,” Bryan said.

She said she waits for specials and then combines it with her coupons.

“Both of these were on sale for 99 cents. I had a $1-off coupon. So I made a penny,” Bryan said.

Flink reported that penny was credited against her sales tax. Bryan’s goal is to spend a dime for every dollar of groceries she brings home.

“Right now, Price Chopper is having its 60th anniversary and it has a a lot of things on sale for 60 cents and 99 cents. If you have a coupon for a $1 off, you are getting those items for free,” Bryan said.

The big mistake most people make is thinking that they have to use the coupons they clip this week, Flink reported. But coupons are often good for several weeks, and during those weeks, some of the items go on sale.

Tap Into the Coupon Game and Save Yourself Tons of Money

There are many people today looking to save money in any way they can. Unfortunately, many people often overlook the value of coupons.

We have all seen coupons while we are looking through the morning paper, but have you noticed how many other places there are to find coupons?

One good place to start is in your mailbox. There are companies who pay to put their coupons in with a large group of other coupons that are mailed to everyone’s home within a certain radius.

Be sure to take the time to look at these groups of coupons. Often, they are not just for major retailers in your area. Mom-and-Pop stores, car dealerships and small restaurants are often contributors to these bulk coupon mailings.

Another great place to find coupons is at the grocery store. The next time you are grocery shopping, you will probably see coupon holders on the shelves that offer discounts for products in the vicinity of where you’re shopping.

Also, grocery store receipts often come with coupons attached to them or on the back of them. So, be sure to check your receipts for grocery store coupons.

Schools often have fundraisers that involve selling coupons for local businesses. There may be an entire volume of coupons or individual coupon cards with pull-off stickers that reveal different amounts of savings.

Generally, it only takes one or two purchases to make up for the cost of the coupons. So, while you’re saving money, you’re also giving money back to a child’s school.

Another place to find coupons is on eBay. Food companies generally sell specific coupons in specific areas depending on how much of their product is sold in those areas. For example, if macaroni and cheese sells well in the southeast but not in the northeast, macaroni and cheese companies will place coupons in newspapers and circulars in the southeast and not the northeast.

So, what eBayers have done is figure out which coupons are wanted in which area of the country. In the aforementioned example, people in the northeast would clip macaroni and cheese coupons and sell them in groups to people in the southeast.

The person purchasing the coupons from the eBayer pays for the shipping and receives, for example, 10 macaroni and cheese coupons, which are good at any retailer selling that particular brand.

eBay is not the only web site that sells coupons in this way. There are other coupon club web sites that people can join to either buy or sell groups of coupons.

Of course, once you have located coupons, you do have to use them. Many people become frustrated because they never seem to have their coupons when they need them.

One solution to this problem is to carry coupons in your car. If you usually go out to eat in one of the family’s vehicles, then put restaurant coupons in that car rather than the one you drive on a regular basis.

It also might help to create a database of coupons that you have. Then, if you know you are going to the dry cleaners, or other such service location, you can check to see if you have a coupon for that business. If you do not have a coupon for that particular business, you can always check your supply of coupons to see if you have a coupon for a different supplier in the same service area.

In addition, you can purchase coupon organizers that you can carry into the grocery store. That way, you can compare prices on items for which you have coupons and buy the best deal.

Of course, using coupons does require flexibility. If you are brand loyal, you may need to change your thinking in order to use coupons to save money. Rather than always buying one specific brand, it is best to be willing to purchase other brands corresponding with your coupons.

Coupons are an overlooked resource that saves consumers thousands of dollars each year. If you take the time to find, organize and use coupons, you can save a good deal of money for other, more important, things.
