Do You Secretly Want to Publish Your Recipes in a Cookbook?

If you’ve ever secretly thought about publishing your recipes in a cookbook, you will want to read the following.

The popularity of cookbooks as a product that’s easy to sell has continued to go up, along with the sheer quality of the recipes, the design of the book and the downright creativity of self-publishers.

Cookbooks have proven throughout the past 50 years or so to be much more than a collection of recipes. Cookbooks are a great public relations tool. They add to local history.

Cookbooks are an important documentation of a nation’s heritage. They are a collector’s item, a family’s memoir and a way to maintain our sense of identity. Passing down recipes from generation to generation has long been a tradition whether published in a cookbook or not.

The cookbook market will never be saturated because the public is always looking for new recipes and for the best possible way to make food taste great.

With more and more cookbooks featuring color photography with their recipes and interesting sidebar information, cookbooks are even leaving the kitchen and finding a home on the coffee table.

Actually most cookbook buyers are referred to as armchair cooks. They really don’t have time to cook but love to read recipes, read about cooking and food, and collect useful and beautiful cookbooks.

I know this is true because I have spent many a bedtime poring over the recipes in my cookbooks — avidly marking recipes that I intend to try — some day!

Food and cooking are a part of everyday life, making cookbooks a staple in every American and European home. Even in a weak or down economy, cookbook sales always remain strong.

Whether people buy cookbooks for casual reading or to fix meals, they continue to sell year after year. We live in a cookbook crazy culture. Actually 80% of cookbooks are sold by word of mouth.

And cookbook sales continue to climb every year. Some years it has been as much as 76%.

The third best-selling book in the world is the Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook. It ranks behind the Bible and the dictionary in sales. And many community and regional cookbooks have been published continually for more than 50 years.

The average American woman owns about 15 cookbooks and three out of ten women collect cookbooks.

Ninety-seven million people gave or have received a book as a gift and the most popular category is cookbooks.

A fast and cheap way would be to publish your recipes is in a simple ebook, which you could do and still work from home. Another option which requires more capital would be in a self-published trade book. It wouldn’t require color photographs to publish a great book with your recipes.

If you have a lot of money to invest in your own self-publishing business then consider publishing a cookbook with color photographs. The choice is up to you.

Promoting, marketing and selling self-published cookbooks can be a lot of fun. You can do public demonstrations of your recipes and give away free soup samples.

You can give away free recipes. You can print up free recipes on bookmarks with your cookbook information. You can print free sample recipes on your fliers.

As you can see, the cookbook market has always been a fantastic market. If you’ve always wanted to publish your recipes, this is a good reason to think about publishing your collection of recipes in a cookbook.

How Easy Dinner Recipes Can Help You Keep All Your New Year Resolutions

A quick survey of my friends showed the usual New Year resolutions.

  • Lose weight
  • Spend more time with the family
  • Get the kids eating healthier food
  • Save money
  • Pay off the credit card
  • Travel more
  • Take up a new hobby

Sound familiar?

What if I told you that the key to nailing your New Year resolutions this year is as simple as making a commitment to eating at home with the family?

“Too easy!” you say, “So what’s the catch?”

The catch? No catch, you just have to cook the meals yourself.

Not convinced eating at healthy home cooked meals will solve all these problems?

Let me show you in more detail:

Lose weight: You have more control over food you prepare at home. You’re less likely to go overboard on the carbs and you can watch the fat, salt and sugar content too. Go for fresh, simple food and do as little to it as you can. Combine this with a gentle exercise routine of say, 30 minutes brisk walking a day, and the weight problem will virtually solve itself.

Spend more time with the family: We’re all so busy these days, but if you can make a house rule that everyone is home at a certain time for dinner (at least some of the time), then you get the value of sharing a meal together as well as sharing some time together. This is made all the more special because you’ve prepared the meal yourself. In fact, get the kids involved and teach them some valuable skills while you are at it.

Get the kids eating healthier food: As you take care of your own resolution to lose weight the kids will benefit too from the healthier food. The only difference is that active kids and teens need more carbs than you do, so give them a serving of low GI brown rice, whole wheat pasta, or wholegrain bread.

Save money; Pay more off the credit card; and Travel more: I’ve lumped these three together because they can all be solved the same way. That is, once you are regularly eating at home, buying unprocessed foods, and not forking out a fortune on fast food and take out, you’ll notice a welcome side effect on your budget. You’ll be starting to save money. Money you can put away for a ‘rainy day’, put on the credit card, or save for a decent holiday. Every little bit helps, and in my experience raw fruit and vegetables and other unprocessed foods are much cheaper to buy than food that just needs to be heated and served.

Take up a new hobby: I think you’ve probably already guessed where I’m heading with this one! Yes, why not join the fastest growing movement in the western world and really get into cooking your own food! You don’t need to produce restaurant quality food every night. Who needs that kind of pressure! All you need is to allow yourself to enjoy food, fresh food, with as many of your senses as you can muster, and share the enthusiasm with your family.

Oh, and a source of easy dinner recipes never goes astray. I can help out there too, so be sure to check out my website for heaps of free recipes as well as tips on healthy eating.

So, what are you waiting for? Will you be going to next years New Year’s Eve party knowing that you’ve failed to keep your resolutions again?

Or are you going to enjoy ticking them all off this year? You’ll never have to make a resolution again…or you could have some fun cultivating a whole set of new vices!

5 Useful Tips to Make Money Blogging With Food Reviews and Ratings

Most bloggers love to make money blogging about how to make money online. The interest of blogging has come at a stage where people would blog for anything that concerns about money (example, loan, insurance, credit card) than anything else. Today, I am going to turn the table around and share with you how to blog about food and make money at the same time. Sounds impossible? Read on then.

Most food lovers would usually be interested in food recipes and food reviews. Hence if you focus and write about them well, you can expect some good readership and followers for your blog.

Food Reviews Or Food Recipes?

If you have a great recipe to share, why not just write a blog post on it and share with your fellow readers. However, I would not suggest that you copy a recipe from somewhere and post it, or create a recipe out of your own when you have never try the food yourself. You may drive your readers away consequently. Hence, I would not encourage you to write about food recipes unless you are pretty sure of what you desire to share.

Assuming that you are a food lover, food reviews would be an easier choice and more popular approach since most people love to eat and keen to know where they can find the best food in town. Below are 5 useful tips that you may follow to make money blogging about food (particularly reviews and ratings).

1. Take Good Food Display Photos When Served

Food lovers usually love to see nice photos on the food display when served, follows by the food reviews itself. Food photos taken in very bad environment (eg. poor lighting) would require some Photo-shop skills to “touch up” the photo so that it looks nice and appealing to your readers. With these skills, you will be able to display “mouth-watering” photos to accompany your reviews. Great isn’t it? :)

2. Add Your Profile If You Are A Popular Food Reviewer

If you are a well-known and popular food reviewer, why not add your profile to the homepage of your blog and give yourself an introduction? This would add credential to your blog and your reviews would naturally attract tons of readers due to your influence and popularity.

3. Provide Honest Food Ratings And Reviews

Apart from appealing photos, food lovers love to see ratings and reviews too. Give yourself a range eg. out of 5 stars on how you would rate the food that you have tried. Write your most honest review in short paragraphs. Do not always give nice reviews, remember to mention the bad points too. However, you should always support your criticism with facts.

Tip: Remember! Your first food review is crucial to the success of your food review blog. Be more descriptive and always share your taste well.

4. Keep Your Readers Coming Back. Gather Your Supporters!

Your reader today might be gone for tomorrow. So how to keep them coming back? Well, apart from providing regular food reviews, provide means for them to return too. First, setup an RSS Feed for them to subscribe to your blog just like mine “Subscribe To My RSS”. Whenever you post a new review, they will be notified and read in their own RSS reader. Another way is to create a Twitter account like what I did so that they can be your “follower” and get updates whenever you are reviewing food again.

5. Monetize Your Blog With Adsense

Fastest and easiest way to monetize your blog is to add in Google Adsense ads. Adsense is the best pay-per-click advertising program so far as it rewards well and display ads that are most relevant to your blog content (food reviews). Competitive keywords like “food reviews” or “Spanish Food” will drive tons of visitors to your blog if you work on your SEO well.
